How to manage everything on time and be happy?

Fashion blogger, beauty journalist, businessman and model about dealing with their schedules

In today`s world you can make yourself busy with many various things, that is why it`s difficult to focus on something really important, concerning your career or personal life. But time is not counting down, so you should try to be precise with your plans and aims. Some people think that they are still too young to care about serious stuff, while a clinical psychologist Meg Jay in her book “The Defining Decade” insists that the time between 20 and 30 years is very significant and makes a crucial influence on your further life. We agree: the earlier you start to care about your time, the better.
What concerns the career aspect, different jobs require different approaches and special ways of planning the tasks. Creative industry, for example, is regarded to be even more chaotic then other spheres.

We talked with 4 people from the creative field and asked if they have “to do list”, plan every day and use the Apps for time-management.

Daria, beauty journalist at Vogue

“I disagree with the statement that creative people have more problems with time management than others”

Organization

Of course, it`s not possible to be disorganized if you are working at Vogue. I believe that good organization increases your creativity. When you have some borders, you don`t waste your time and work purposefully on any project.

To do list

I don`t plan my time for every hour but I have a plan for one or two next weeks concerning meetings, shootings and work events.

Attitude to being late

I always try to be on time when I meet with someone. It`s very important for a good career because no one will be pleased with a disorganized person. As we all know: time is money.
What concerns various presentations, it is not necessary to come on time, at least in Moscow. You can be 30 minutes late without stress because usually all big events start one hour later than scheduled.

Apps for Time management

I don`t use any. I only mark important dates in my iPhone calendar. But, as I said before, I don`t plan every hour and don`t think that I need to do that.

Timetable

I have a scheme for my day in the office. In the morning, while drinking coffee, I am completing smalls tasks: checking post, answering mails and so on. Then I start with more important things, for example, writing texts for which I need to collect a lot of information and to speak with a big amount of people.
What concerns events, I don`t attend all of them. There are ‘work’ events which are obligatory to attend and it doesn`t depend on my own willing or unwilling. I just have to do it, it`s part of my job. There are also events which are appealing to me but are not necessary to attend. In this case I go there if I do not have any urgent tasks.

“I usually plan more time than estimated per task”

Organization

I think I’m more organized than the majority. But I know a lot of people who are less organized but still successful with their business. I personally think it’s an advantage to be organized but it’s certainly not the most important factor.

To do list

I have an hourly schedule which helps me to remember what I want to work on. I also have a big list with tasks which I want to do in the future but without a timing attached to it.

Attitude to being late

I am often on time.

Apps for Time management

I use a platform called Asana, where you can write down all your to-do’s. It helps me to be more organized, so I think it ultimately also helps me to be more time-efficient.

Timetable

I usually wake up early, do sports, go to the office and relax at the beach or meet with some friends in the evening.
If only consider my working time, I do some things to be effective:
– put my phone on a silent or airplane mode, so it doesn’t ring and I am not distracted while doing my work. I believe you really need to come into your workflow and your phone is a huge distraction.
– I try to plan meetings with people about certain topics instead of discussing several small details.
– I put on earplugs, so people don’t disturb me too often.
– I usually plan more time than estimated per task. Doing this way, I still have extra time when there is a delay in a job or some unexpected small tasks appear.

Gosha, fashion & lifestyle blogger

“I love waking up with a thought that I have a lot to do”

Organization

I think it`s true that creative people are more disorganized but I`m more a person of the mood. I love waking up with a thought that I have a lot to do, so I start enthusiastically making a brief plan of the day. But if “catch” a bad mood or autumn melancholy, my enthusiasm suddenly disappears.

To do list

I try to make “to do list” for every day. When I forget it, I always regret later.

Attitude to being late

I try not to be late but even if it`s happens, it`s usually not my fault. In most cases I come earlier than needed, especially, if we talk about important shooting or meeting. For these “serious cases” I run out from the house beforehand.

Apps for Time management

To say honestly, all Apps, which I tried, didn’t fully satisfy me. That`s why I use alarm and notes in my iPhone. Moreover, I guess I will never get rid of plain notebook with a pen and small remindings on a hand.

Timetable

From the beginning of September my timetable does not look as bright as before because the big amount of my time I spend in university. What concerns fashion events, I attend those which really interest me.

Andrey, model, based in Los Angeles

“I`m always coming on time while 80% of models are often running late”

Organization

If to compare myself to others, I can say that I am very organized. I`m always coming on time while 80% of models are often running late.

To do list

I started making it recently. A bit less than a year ago I read a «Great Gatsby». He had his “to do list” and I decided that I want it too. Now it is hanging on my wardrobe.

Attitude to being late

I always come 30 minutes before. I have a fear to be late, so I start preparing in advance, arrive earlier and often have to wait for others. Sometimes I am angry with myself about this but better earlier to be than later.

Apps for Time management

I do not use any Apps.

Timetable

When I have a working day, I do not manage to do anything for my private life. I come home after a long day, watch a film and sleep. What concerns castings, I do not have to think which casting to attend. The agency manages everything for me and does it in the most profitable way.
If I have a weekend, I usually wake up early, train, have a breakfast, play tennis, go to swim and meet with some friends.
