Three Names to Watch at Berlin Fashion Week SS27

Fifty shows across a city that has always treated fashion as a byproduct of something larger  culture, subculture, politics, the particular freedom that comes from building a scene in a place that had to reinvent itself. Berlin Fashion Week SS27 runs July 2 to 5. Three names from the lineup worth your time.

SELVA HUYGENS [SLVA] works with what most labels would discard. Car parts, industrial waste, automotive hardware, remade into modular garments that sit somewhere between brutalist architecture and survival equipment. The brand has been worn by Lady Gaga, FKA Twigs, and Jared Leto, and has appeared in Vogue and V Magazine, though none of that is really the point. The point is that the clothes carry a logic most fashion cannot access: material honesty taken to its structural conclusion.

Rebekka Ruétz has been showing in Berlin since 2011, which makes her one of the longest-running and most quietly consistent voices on the BFW calendar. Her new collection is framed as a journey toward a wilder, freer self  one unafraid of imperfection. Avant-garde silhouettes, bold material contrasts, sustainability as a founding principle rather than a seasonal talking point. This season she takes the runway at Motorwerk Berlin.

#DAMUR has a pattern worth paying attention to: KitKat Club one season, Liquidrom the next, a boxing ring in Taipei after that. For SS27, Damur Huang is taking over a skatepark  guests arrive in the afternoon, stay through the techno sets, and experience the collection as part of a day rather than a show. The Taipei-born, Berlin-based designer has always treated the venue as an extension of the argument and the skatepark continues that.
